Hahaha yeah. That's part of the reason I don't really drink sodas anymore, except on a few occasions. That and the carbonation is hard on my stomach. (I have a really sensitive stomach.)

I don't drink enough of anything, and what I do drink usually falls into the category of coffee or Dr. Pepper flavored sodas. I can usually do without soda, but straight water and fruit juice makes me queasy, and I'm lactose intolerant, so no milk. When I start feeling crappy, I start drinking water, queasy or not, and it usually helps. I need to get back in the habit of drinking it all the time though. I admit I let the kids drink sodas, but I've started trying to limit the amounts now. I'll usually buy a 2 liter each for the week, 1 cup a day, and when it's gone it's gone. We go through a ton of milk though.
The really sucky thing about soda is that it tastes better than water, and it's a whole lot cheaper than the other stuff out there that tastes better than water, so people tend to think to themselves hmmm, I can buy 1 quart of juice for two dollars, milk for 4 dollars a gallon, or soda for 60 cents a 2 liter, and it's more economical in the short term to go with the soda.
