Yeah!!! I get to be Mod. Woohooo. Sorry, you guys don't have dancing banana smilies.
For those of you who don't already know me, I figured I'd do a quick intro and explanation thread.
Ammy, Keyodie and Caunion have made me a mod for the discussion/debate area. Therefore, you will all bow down, kiss my feet and fear me. Mwahahaha...AAAAA.
*LT blinks and slaps hands*
Sorry folks, apparently my periodically possessed, psychotic fingers also have a god complex.
Seriously, just a couple of quick points. We've been asked a few times what's the difference between the debate and discussion sections.
Debate - these tend to be threads with conflicting points of view on a particular topic. They tend to be lively, and sometimes downright heated. While these threads can be highly informative as well as extremely entertaining, they can also get very pointed and involved. If you tend to be a person who cannot handle having your ideas challenged, you might find your blood pressure is better served by sticking to the discussions instead. Please don't misunderstand that. All points of view are welcome in both areas, and respectful behavior is required of all participants in both sections, but the debates, by definition will involve argument.
Discussion - these tend to be threads designed for the exploration of the topic at hand. They are more philosophical, and less aggressive, but still a lot of fun, and often very enlightening. You will still encounter differing points of view, but they don't necessarily tend to be oppositional.
I encourage everyone to check out the Expectations thread the Admins thoughtfully provided. Aside from what is stated there, having a different point of view does not constitute a banning offense. If you have a problem with an individual's behavior in a thread, please feel free to PM me at any time. Any behavior that warrants more than a mild redirect back on topic from me will be handled by PM, rather than on the thread in question. First, because I don't see a need to dress people down in public. Second, because it's counterproductive to continue to interrupt the flow of discussion with unrelated behavioral issues. So, in other words, if you PM me with a problem, I'll handle it, but don't expect to see a public smack down. You wouldn't like it if I did it to you, so don't expect it to be done to others. For the most part, if everyone stays generally on topic, and generally within the guidelines of the forum, I will not step in other than to offer my own point of view. Please note too, I'm not God, and if you have a problem with my posts, let me know. I will either adjust my attitude, or tell you why I think I'm within the boundaries.
Aside from all that, have fun, stay open, and with a little patience, we'll all expand our understanding of the world around us.
Lastly, I'd like to say thanks to the Admins for the opportunity!
