Haha, I have random taste. However, I hardly think it's weird. Like, I'll listen to Metallica one minute, and then Barbra Streisand the next. So, it's just random.

If you'd asked me that question a few months ago, I probably would've said 'melody', because a few months ago, I only listened to Japanese music. No English at all, save for musicals. So obviously I didn't know what I was singing, and in some cases, I was better off not knowing (-cough-Vanilla by Gackt-cough-).
However, since then, I've moved on and listened to loadssss of great bands with English lyrics, so I have to say 'both'. Like several others above me, a powerful melody makes me listen for the first time, but the lyrics generally keep me coming back for more, especially if they remind me of something that strikes a chord deep in my heart.

I personally believe that music is the language of all people so I do not care if somebody sings POP or metal as long as I like the melody, I will listen to it. However, I am into hard rock, even metal. Like Metallica, Blind Guardian, Slipknot, Nickelback, Bon Jovi, MCR, Green Day as you can see, it varies and therefore, I try to listen to every artist because music is universal.
