Writers Support Thread: Tips, tricks, and chat

I thought a general thread about writing (poetry, fiction, the works) would be a good idea. Do you have any good tips for writer's block? Do you want support, tips, or inspiration from other writers? Then post here! Yeah!

The problem I've always had is I have these good ideas (or at least I think so) but I can never get them down on paper. I've never been able to write more than 50 pages in a story.

Write 50 pages, and put it away, and then write 50 pages of a different story, and put it away, and write 50 pages of a different story. Once you have 4 or 5 stories going, set yourself a time to write, and cycle through what you have going until one of them clicks. It helps break writers block and get you going, and sooner or later, you'll finish one of them. The key, when doing multiple books or stories at a time, is to have a regular time to write. That doesn't mean you can't write whenever you want too, but say every m-w-f from 9-10, you sit down with nothing else to distract you and write. The first week or two, it might be a struggle, but if you stick with it, your subconscious will be working on one of the story lines the rest of the week, and you'll be ready to go when the time comes.

And yes, I like writer's support. Anybody know how to go about getting published?

OOohhh good idea. I think I'll start doing that. I would start now but I'm really busy with school lately. x____x That's part of my problem. But yeah, you're right, if I set some time aside to write, I'll probably be able to write maybe a page or so every day. I think that's what LDM does, actually.

I've done a lot of research on getting published. Pretty much it's a lot of waiting, over a long period of time, and I always seem to get distracted. Plus, I still have problems with rejection, so every time someone says sorry, no, it takes a while to get my nerve back up to send it out somewhere else. 'S alright though, one of these days I'll get off my butt and resend it, and sooner or later, I'll send it to the right place at the right time.
